2016 conference hosts - Lanarkshire Family History Society (LFHS) was formed in 1991 as "Hamilton & District Family History Society" and the group met monthly in Hamilton Reference Library. As the years passed and membership continued to increase we moved to Motherwell Heritage Centre.
By 2005 the number of members attending the monthly meetings was approaching the maximum permitted for the size of the Lecture room; we again had to move venue at the beginning of 2006 to the GLO Centre.
The society has organised the "SAFHS Conference and Family History Fair" on three separate occasions. We also attend many Family History Fairs throughout Scotland each year. This gives us contact with other societies and helps to advertise that we exist. The Society's new Resource Centre opened Sept 2012 at 122 - 124 Merry Street Motherwell. ML1 1NA (Above Swinton Insurance Brokers - (entrance at the rear of the building).

ANESFHS - The Aberdeen & North-East Scotland Family History Society exists to assist and promote the study of genealogy and family history based on the North-East corner of Scotland. This area covers the old counties of Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Kincardineshire and Morayshire. The Society owns premises in the centre of Aberdeen with a well stocked library and a huge selection of microfilm, microfiche and CD resources.
The Society holds regular meetings throughout the year, covering many topics of interest to family historians. Meetings are held in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Elgin, Glasgow and in the West Midlands of England.

The Anglo-Scottish FHS was formed in 1982 by members of the M&L FHS to assist in tracing their links back to Scottish origins. We have members in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. We are full members of the Scottish Association of Family History Societies and send a representative to their meetings in Edinburgh.We were one of the founder members of SAFHS

Borders FHS - Commited to help people with their family history primarily in the Border counties (Berwickshire, Peeblesshire, Roxburghshire and Selkirkshire) of Scotland, as well as in adjacent counties of England and Scotland.
Caithness Family History Society was formed in September 1999 by a small group of enthusiasts and has already grown to some 300 members worldwide. Our aim is to promote an interest in genealogy and, wherever we can, to help others trace their roots – especially families originating from Caithness.

CENTRAL SCOTLAND FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY was formed in 1990 to serve the needs of those interested in family history who lived in what was then Central Region. This means that as well as the old counties of Clackmannanshire, Stirlingshire and West Perthshire, the Society covers the parishes of Bo'ness and Carriden which were in West Lothian. While of particular value to people whose forebears come from these parishes and from the villages and burghs of Stirlingshire, Clackmannanshire and West Perthshire, the Society, through its links to similar groups in Scotland and elsewhere, can be of service to family historians generally.
Clan Moffat UK. The group was formed in June 2000. Our aims are to achieve recognition of the role played by Moffats in the history and culture of Scotland and encourage research into those families bearing the Moffat surname, however it is spelt, through the mutual exchange of information and to give assistance where possible. The group is open to anyone with Moffat ancestors: not only those bearing the name.
The Clyde and Avon Valley Landscape Partnership (CAVLP) is here to support over 70 projects throughout the area which celebrate these special features, receiving support from Heritage Lottery Fund to deliver them between 2011 and 2018. Each project, offers opportunities for people to enjoy the beautiful landscape, and connect with each other through shared discovery. Training and volunteering opportunities are provided where possible, enabling local communities to develop skills necessary in protecting this extraordinary part of the world. |
Dumfries & Galloway Family History Society covers the three counties of South West Scotland - Dumfriesshire, The Stewartry of Kirkcudbright and Wigtownshire. We are a self-help group, established in 1987, run by volunteers, whose aim is to promote the study of family history. We do not contract to do research for others: we simply act as facilitators for researchers visiting our area who are doing their own research.

Fife Family History Society, which was formed in 1989 aims to join together people with an interest in the research of their Fife ancestors. The society produces a journal 3 times a year free to members, and holds a meeting on the second Tuesday of the month from September to April (not January). The Society has members both in the local area, the rest of the UK and throughout the world. The main reason for joining the Fife FHS is to enable contact with others who have similar interests, who also share your enthusiasm and are more than willing to pass on their help and experience. Lanark and District Archaeological Society (LADAS) - is an active amateur society operating in the Clydesdale area of Scotland. This is an area rich in history. The Society has been involved in excavations on several Prehistoric, Roman and Medieval sites throughout the area. The towns in the area, Lanark and Biggar, are both long established market towns which trace their histories to the Middle Age.
South Lanarkshire Library's - (Local history, heritage and family history) Our four main libraries, Hamilton Town House Library, East Kilbride Central Library, Rutherglen Library and Lanark Library all have family history and local history resources to help anyone interested in researching their family tree or researching the history of Lanarkshire and its parishes. Our collections include Old Parochial Registers (OPRs), census returns from 1841 to 1901, directories, local newspaper archives, electoral registers, valuation rolls, sasines and commissariat indexes, monumental inscriptions, burial records and county and burgh records. Apart from histories of Lanarkshire and surrounding parishes we have statistical accounts of all the parishes in Scotland.

Lothians FHS is a non-profit making Society consisting of members interested in promoting the study of genealogy and family history, starting and extending research into family roots, and in furthering interest in and facilities for genealogical research. We are situated in Bonnyrigg which is just a stone throw away (7 Miles south) from Edinburgh. The Society`s Library is housed in the Lasswade Library adjacent to the New High School Centre

Scottish Monumental Inscriptions photograph and transcribe graveyards across Scotland. These photographs are transcribed by volunteers and added to a fully searchable Windows compatible CD. The CD contains the master copy of each headstone along with any information we have managed to transcribe from the stone, also included are photographs of inside the Church if we have access and of the graveyard or cemetery.
Troon@Ayrshire Family History Society is run by volunteers who share an interest in family history. It is one of the smaller societies in Scotland but has the reputation of being very active. They are members of the Council of Ayrshire Family History Societies which meets twice yearly to exchange information and discuss matters of joint interest.
Genealogical Studies Postgraduate Programme - The Centre for Lifelong Learning has, for a number of years, offered adult education courses in aspects of Family History Research and related subjects. The Postgraduate Programme builds upon and expands these to offer an intensive practioner-led University qualification in Genealogical Studies.
West Lothian Family History Society was formed in November 2000 to assist those researching family history and genealogy throughout the county of West Lothian.
